One of the most important things you can do to stop aging (and turn back the clock!) is to manage your diet and nutrition. If you want to see huge changes for the better, eliminate refined sugar ENTIRELY. Don’t fool around with this. Refined sugar (and refined carbs that act like sugars) can cause immune system confusion, inflammation, blood sugar fluctuations and mood swings. All of these side-effects are extremely aging.
Many of us are highly sensitive to the effects of sugar but don’t realize how controlled we are by it because it is so prevalent in our diets. By eliminating it completely, you will be able to gauge the difference. You may be tempted to just cut down, reasoning that a little sugar is OK. But if you will stop it altogether, you will most likely notice an enormous difference and your body will thank you by feeling better, becoming slimmer and looking fresher.
If you want sweet, try stevia. Stevia is an herb and will not cause a spike in insulin. It is available in a liquid extract form and packets.
Sugar can be very addictive and detoxing from it can set off a cycle of cravings, over-eating, starving, bingeing, etc. One way to circumvent this is to eat a small amount of protein-rich, nutrient dense food every few hours.
This is a big step and it takes resolve to follow through. Plan ahead and carry food, drinks – whatever you need. Suggestions: supplements like spirulina and chlorella are very satisfying – try a drop of cinnamon or peppermint oil to get rid of cravings, good quality protein powder in a jar – you can add water when you are ready to drink it.
