Love coffee too much to give it up? Maybe you don’t need to. Perhaps you could benefit more by simply upgrading a few choices around your coffee pot.
1. Drink the best quality coffee you can afford. Since coffee tends to be a heavily sprayed crop, use organic coffee beans. Even better – use your coffee dollars to support organic, shade grown, fair trade coffee growers.
2. Grind only the amount you need each day.
3. Consider using a French press coffee maker made of glass and stainless steel. We know that most plastics leach chemicals into water. Notice that when using a typical automatic drip coffee maker, hot steaming water is running through plastic receptacles – and day after day usage further reduces the plastic’s integrity.
4. Eliminate the toxic creamers and sweeteners in favor of more natural options. You can easily make enough cream or milk to last for several days out of nuts or coconut (shredded or creamed). If you choose dairy, choose organic – even though it’s pasteurized and contains animal hormones, it may help you avoid other steroids and vaccines and the residue of conventionally grown and genetically modified corn and soy-based animal feed. If you like sweet, try stevia (no calories and won’t spike your insulin).
When you thoroughly enjoy good coffee, one cup can be enough.
